Brazil

Encounter golden stretches of sand, glittering cities and small, indigenous villages.

Colorful Rio de Janeiro is famed for its annual Carnival celebration, held in the weeks prior to Ash Wednesday.

Visitors here can also ride the cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, learn how to dance the traditional samba or lounge on one of its popular beaches.

Recife is another appealing port, where handmade items are sold at the Pernambuco Culture Center, a prison-turned-crafts-market.

Some Brazil cruises spend a few days on the Amazon River, starting or ending inland at the city of Manaus. While sailing the river, you can observe Amazonian life up-close in tiny Indian communities such as Boca da Valeria, located at the edge of the jungle, and 200-year-old Parintins, perched on Tupinambarana Island.

  • Brazil is often featured on South America cruises and cruise tours, which take place from November to March. Brazil can also be included on some Caribbean itineraries in winter.
  • Some Brazil cruises include a few days on the Amazon River. Amazon River sailings usually take place from late fall through spring.
  • If you must fly a long distance to reach your port of departure, we suggest that you arrive at the port city at least one or two days in advance of your Brazil cruise. This will give you time to rest and get oriented before boarding the ship. Most cruise lines offer pre-cruise hotel packages.
